Celebrating Reading the American Way!!
Lufkin—On Tuesday, May 10th at 10 a.m., the students at St. Cyprian’s Episcopal School will celebrate reading more than a million pages of books the American Way, with a hot apple pie party! The theme this year, We the People Read, inspired Mrs. Lively the school librarian to challenge the students to read more than a million pages with the promise of an apple pie party as their reward. The students accepted the challenge and then some. To date the students have read 1,114,443 pages!!
Mrs. Lively said, “The number of pages read by our students is staggering when you think about the fact that we have 195 students enrolled. They well exceeded my expectations this year, reading a hundred thousand pages more than last year!”
To see their progress throughout the year, Mrs. Lively built a Statue of Liberty on the wall in the hall brick by brick.
Mrs. Lively said, “They keep surprising me how much they read! The kids love to read, and they push themselves to read even more to reach a goal.”
The school-wide apple pie party will be on Tuesday, May 10th, and the apple pies will be provided by Popeye’s Chicken & Biscuits. To find out more about St. Cyprian’s School, log on to http://www.saintcyprians.org.
